- David contacted me by email to clarify the question. Since I don't
- know the answer myself, here is (at least my interpretation) of what
- is going on. I replied in more detail by email, but I think I also
- need to do penance for my previous response by posting a short
- follow-up.
-
- This is, evidently, _not_ a case of emulating a 7171 as I had assumed.
- On initial connection, the emulator has to talk non-3270 protocol
- to the Unix host, which will prompt the caller for some information
- and then establish a connection to the IBM mainframe. From that
- point on, the connection will go into IBM 3270 mode.
-
- So it would seem that he needs a combined TELNET/TN3270 emulator.
- It is not clear that the non-3270 mode needs any particular emulation:
- possibly VT100 would do nicely - possibly dumb TTY mode would suffice.
-
- I have suggested that TN3270 in the Clarkson/Rutgers (CUTCP) package has
- the needed functionality, but it does not have a WINSOCK interface.
- It is a DOS application, expecting a packet-driver interface.
- I personally would use it in parallel with WINSOCK, by making use
- of PKTMUX. A WINSOCK-compatible application would surely be more
- convenient, if anyone can put their fingers on one.
-
- Does that get us any further forward?
-
- (David, it just occurs to me that you could try asking the IBMTCP-L
- mailing list at PUCC.BITNET).
